International singer Sandro Cavazza came to Zandspruit this week to engage with individuals in need. Hailing from Sweden, Sandro has collaborated with musical giants, the likes of Avicii and Kygo, to produce hit songs. Sandro is passionate about community development in South Africa.
Sandro has searched for great community development projects in South Africa with which to be involved. His search has taken him across the provinces. Through Impophomo, a non-profit organisation focused on socio-economic development and poverty alleviation, Sandro was invited to visit the community in an informal settlement near Honeydew in Johannesburg. Impophomo has been working in Zandspruit for almost 8 years on community development and food security programmes. On the day, Sandro was joined by his producer, Petter, representatives from Sony ATV, and project organisers from Impophomo Rushing Waters and Northpoint City Church.
Petter accompanied Sandro on guitar as they entertained the children at Realeboga creche together. They then rolled up their sleeves to serve meals for the elderly and disabled in Zandspruit, at Mashile’s Soup Kitchen, another community development initiative supported by Impophpomo.
Sandro loves to see people in need benefitting from partnerships which improve living standards. “It is so sad when people just stay at home on the couch rather than enjoying the feeling they could get from helping someone out,” he said.
