How to Make the World a Better Place: Getting involved with Impophomo

 

“Think globally, act locally” – concept said to originate with Patrick Geddes, a Scottish biologist, sociologist, philanthropist, and pioneering town planner.

 

The needs facing the world’s poor are great, and complex. The scope of the problems is intimidating. Looking at the big picture can be disheartening and discouraging. People who are looking to make the world a better place can feel as if the problem is too big to even begin to tackle.

 

Impophomo is making a difference in the world. We have seen the lives of many impoverished South Africans improving. We do this through our sustainable development programmes. We want to see the poorest of the poor clothed, fed and sheltered. We then work to equip them to be self-reliant and prosperous individuals. This leads to bettering and uplifting their communities.

 

How can you help?

 

There are various ways you can help Impophomo to make this a better world. Donations of funds are always welcome and put to good use. If you have clothing to give or non-perishable foodstuffs send them our way. We will get them to those who need them most. Throughout the year we also collect items for particular initiatives. An example would be stationary for school children who don’t have. Towards the end of the year, you can give toys for children who wouldn’t get presents on Christmas. We include stationery for their schooling, and basic toiletries. These are usually unavailable in Zandspruit. How much better this country and the world will be with children learning and happy on Christmas.

 

We also have events throughout the year where you can volunteer your time and skills. You could get involved with our annual soccer tournaments in Zandspruit, for instance. These events need hands to set up and referees for the games. There are also many other facets of hosting the tournament. Volunteers helping to cut oranges and make sandwiches is one of them.

 

You might have your own effective programmes. If you would like to partner with us we would be open to discuss how we can help each other. Contact us to arrange a meeting. We can assess where we can get involved in incorporating more programmes to work towards poverty eradication. The less poverty in the world, the better place it will be.

You could collect items they want to donate or be in touch with us to arrange a collection. If they want to volunteer at any of our events they will always have an opportunity.
