The Zandspruit Netball Girls Equip event took place in March at Emthonjeni in Zandspruit. This event was organised in partnership with the Randburg Rotary Club, and aimed at equipping and empowering young girls in the community between the age of 14 years and 17, under the umbrella of the Zandspruit Sports Forum.
We are pleased to report that the event was a tremendous success, with approximately 100 young athletes from six netball teams in attendance. Our speakers covered three vital topics: Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Teenage Pregnancy, and Mental Health. The youth Qaqamba N. also shared a Gospel message on identity, inspiring and encouraging the ladies in their spiritual journey.
The young ladies were then served a delicious meal, and gifted with goodie bags containing toiletries, informational material relating to the topics discussed, and treats. We trust that this gesture provided not only practical support, but a sense of care and appreciation for the recipients.
From this event, we have seen several successes emerge. The Randburg Rotary Club has expressed interest in continuing to partner with Impophomo on future outreach projects, demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact in the community. They have also generously sponsored two young ladies to attend the HARTIES RYLA Camp taking place on 19 APRIL 2024, with all expenses paid. Additionally, DHL has proposed conducting a netball friendly match and sponsoring certain items, further enhancing our ability to support these athletes.
We at Impophomo Rushing Waters extend our heartfelt thanks to Randburg Rotary Club, and to the Umsizi and Northpoint volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to making this event a reality. Their hard work and commitment ensured that the event ran smoothly and was a memorable experience for all involved.
