For eleven years running, the Annual Impophomo Sports Tournament has been empowering the youth of Zandspruit through sports development.

This year was no exception. On the 15th of June 2019, we hosted another successful tournament, to the delight of players, spectators and residents of Zandspruit.

The Tournament has attracted the attention of newspapers, sports MEC’s, celebrities, Bafana players, professional clubs, and the support of international organisations.

The community of Zandspruit faces huge economic challenges, with residents dealing with difficult living circumstances every day. Hundreds of youth have no hope, no sense of belonging and in many cases, no role models. We have worked with dozens of netball and soccer coaches in the community to empower youth through development of sports skills and mentorship.

Over eleven years of working into this vital area, together we have achieved many remarkable milestones:

• A team from Zandspruit represented in the SAFA league
• A commitment from SuperSport United to include Zandspruit as a feeder academy for SuperSport FC, with youth players already accepted into the soccer academy
• Excellent stakeholder relationships, with the tournament being held in high esteem by Zandspruit residents
• Improved sense of community, values  and hope in the beneficiaries among the youth
• The tournament has attracted international investment from as far away as Houston, Texas, USA
